Food & Beverage: System upgrade

Background

Complete Energy Centre upgrade with site wide utility metering and monitoring enhancement alongside critical process safety redesign to reduce operator risk and product over temperature issues (Campbells Soup, Kings Lynn. Norfolk)

Solution

  • Design & implementation of site-wide utility monitoring , metering and data analysis, including the development of bespoke interfaces to meet client critical product cost analysis requirements by identifying energy cost per unit produced.

  • Energy centre upgrade involving automation and energy efficiency package to reduce energy production costs by over 20% and minimise manning costs through 'de-manning' automation of boiler house operations, leading to more than 50% reduction in manpower costs and addressing skill acquisition issues in the workforce.

  • Production steam control systems were enhanced through the use of improved data to deliver better process control and improved safety for operators in high-temperature manufacturing environments.

  • Complete site water system monitoring & overview with effluent discharge metering reduced site water/sewerage costs.

Outcome

Three major projects, energy efficiency, automation and metering & monitoring, managed concurrently with overall delivery to meet site production schedules and cost constraints.

The overall project cost was paid back within three years.

Please note - this case study is one of several that highlights the collective experience of our team, drawing on projects completed prior to the formation of Beaverbrook Energy.
